MEMBER BENEFITS
NATIONAL REPRESENTATION
Membership in NHWC gives agencies, companies, and individuals the opportunity to learn and respond to national policy issues related to hydrologic warning. Beginning in 2014, the NHWC became a voting member of the Advisory Committee on Water Information. ACWI is a FACA (Federal Advisory Committee Act) committee. OMB has designated the USGS to be the lead agency for ACWI. The NHWC has, and continues to also be represented on the Subcommittee for Hydrology (which is under ACWI).
TRAINING/CONTINUING EDUCATION
Hydrologic warning is a multi-disciplinary, but highly specialized, field of study and practice. Because of this focus, not many official training venues exist, requiring on-the-job training. The NHWC facilitates targeted online and workshop training available especially for NHWC members to train field technicians, hydrologists, engineers, program managers, and others. Members receive priority access to all training/continuing education opportunities. Attendees of NHWC training regularly have the ability to receive official continuing education credits.
TECHNICAL CONFERENCES
The NHWC hosts a bi-annual major conference which provide members the opportunity to hear technical presentations on various aspects of hydrologic warning, exchange information, promote agency successes, and broaden professional contacts.
TECHNICAL WORKSHOPS/WEBINARS
The NHWC provides regional workshops and webinars including training on instrumentation and field techniques along with flood warning system best practices and new developments.
REDUCED FEES
NHWC members receive reduced fees for conferences, workshops, field trips, training, advertising, and booth registrations.
